Open Source Projects

Current projects in the Centre include:

ADIOS Linux Live CD/DVDs

  • Development of ADIOS Live CD based on Fedora Core. Includes the creation of startup scripts, kernels, packages and configuration files.
  • Development of virtual machine environments, includes User Mode Linux (UML), coLinux, Xen and VServer.
  • Development of extensions to easily create 'themed' Live CD/DVDs for special purposes, such as: multilanguage support, mathematical packages, data mining, graphical tools, integrated developement environments, educational software and business applications.
  • Development of a Live CD/DVD to support Content Management Systems using Apache, MySQL, phpMyAdmin, Drupal, Mambo, Moodle, Mediawiki and Dotproject.

Open Source sample CDs

  • Review of Free and Open Source software available and build compilation CD/DVDs of open source software to encourage people to install open source tools for the following operating systems:

Open Source Online Materials

  • Develop Workshops and course guides to help enable users to:
    • create secure web sites using apache
    • setup drupal content management system
    • build mediawiki site
    • learn Linux
    • secure Linux
    • build Linux live CDs
  • Prepare online tutorials and documentation using Content Management Systems such as ATutor and Moodle to deliver system administration, networking and security materials.
  • Develop educational software using web based tools such as helpmespeak.
