Work has only begun on HelpMeSpeak!

The software developed to date is only a prototype. It has not been fully tested. Therefore the following recommendations about further work are proposed:

  • Test the system thoroughly for errors;
  • Obtain feedback from end-users and administrators for improvements and corrections;
  • Investigate how vocal emotional effects (e.g. happiness, sadness, grief) can be displayed effectively;
  • Create extra administrator screens to simplify the block and menu screens for non-technical administrators;
  • Investigate the implementation of additional free voices;
  • Test the system on other operating systems; and
  • Test the software on other hardware systems and types (eg handhelds).

[edit] Conclusion

In conclusion, the HelpMeSpeak software has been designed to meet most VOCA needs of students in a classroom environment. Currently it is in its early stages and can be used effectively, however full testing and consideration of modifications is necessary. The primary benefits of HelpMeSpeak are its simplicity, ease of use, and low cost. Therefore, it should be beneficial to the educational community.
