[edit] Online Demo

This online demo site is available for you to see the features of HelpMeSpeak software. It is only presents the End-User Interface (ie, you cannot login as an administrator/teacher and modify the system). The purpose of the demo is for you to evaluate the software from an end-user/student's perspective.

[edit] Before you Begin

To run the online demo, you have to install some files first:

[edit] STEP 1: Ensure Speech Support is installed on your PC

For Windows you need to install the SAPI 4.0 runtime support from http://activex.microsoft.com/activex/controls/sapi/spchapi.exe (800Kb file). Download and install the executable.

For Linux, download Festival from http://www.cstr.ed.ac.uk/projects/festival/ or with RedHat Fedora Linux install using rpm command or yum. To change voices modify the Festival source file /usr/share/festival/siteinit.scm and edit the default_voice entry to match one of the entries in /usr/share/festival/voices/english or /usr/share/festival/voices/us and remove the comment to set the voice. To add your own voice read the Festival documentation. The Festival software can be replaced by alternative speech software by modifying the file speak.php.

[edit] STEP 2: Do you have a web server installed on your PC?

[edit] If you have a webserver with PHP5 support already installed on your computer:

Then you only need to download speak.php, save this file to your web servers document root directory (for example with WAMP it is in \wamp\www and for XAMPP it is in \htdocs) and then go straight to the online demo.

[edit] If you don't have a webserver with PHP5 installed:

Download and run the HelpMeSpeak Web Demo software. This is a ~2MB file that will install the Techlogica Web server on your PC with PHP support and includes speak.php.
